Company Managers

Brief biographies of key members of the management team are summarized below.

Josef M. Miller, Ph.D., Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors and President and Interim CEO, is the Lynn and Ruth Townsend Professor of Communication Disorders and Director of the Center for Hearing Disorders at the University of Michigan and a Professor at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.  Dr. Miller is recognized as a world-class leader in the area of hearing sciences, with more than 30 years of research experience.  He has led major research teams supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has published over 350 peer–reviewed articles.  Throughout his career, Dr. Miller has also held contracts from industry for testing the efficacy and safety of hearing-specific drugs.

Peter A. Boxer, Ph.D., Co-Founder, Secretary of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Development, is responsible for management of the human clinical trials and early development.  Dr. Boxer spent 21 years at Pfizer Global Research and Development (formerly Parke-Davis Research) discovering and developing drugs to treat central nervous system disorders.  He has worked on neurological and neurodegenerative disorders moving compounds into development to treat stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.  He has extensive experience managing collaborations with biotech companies and has led numerous research teams and cross-functional committees and task forces.

D. Clark Bennett, Ph.D., Co-Founder, Treasurer of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Technical Operations,  manages project and company operations, and intellectual property at OtoMedicine.  For the past 12 years, Dr. Bennett has concurrently held positions as: Technical Project Manager, responsible for strategic project planning and management for therapeutic and vaccine development, and as: Intellectual Property Manager, responsible for company IP portfolios at a large pharmaceutical (Pfizer) and a small/start-up biotechnology company.  He is a registered Patent Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Additionally, his scientific management experience encompasses 11 years directing R&D in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology laboratories.
